Development

In 2003, InXile (founded by Wasteland's producer, Brian Fargo) acquired the rights to the Wasteland title. On June 21, 2007, Brian Fargo said, "I am indeed looking into bringing back the game that spawned the Fallout series. Stay tuned...." in an interview with fan site Duck and Cover.[1] In March 2009 it was announced that Fallout creator Jason Anderson would work at InXile as a creative director on a new role playing game which might be Wasteland 2. However, Anderson departed the company in January 2011.

In February 2012, Brian Fargo announced that Wasteland 2 would be founded via Kickstarter[2]. Throughout February and March 2012, it was announced that original developers Michael Stackpole, Alan Pavlish and Ken St. Andre joined the team, and that Mark Morgan joined the project as composer. On March 9,2012 inXile announced that Andrée Wallin joined the team as a concept artist for Wasteland 2.

The game's official website was launched on March 5, 2012, while on March 13 the Kickstarter project was launched. The initial target ($900,000) was reached within the first 2 days.
