M1911 is a tier 6 handgun in Wasteland 2.

Description[edit | edit source]

It is said that there are two kinds of Rangers in the world: Those with a .45 and those that want one.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

The weapon alerts enemies (generates noise) in a 18 unit radius.

Top-tier handgun. While its damage is second to none within the class, the AP cost of 6 is a serious issue. Most of the time you'd want to stick to the Wasteland Hawk instead just because of its 33% higher fire rate. The Colt would've looked good on a character with 12+ AP and maxed-out Handguns skill if not for the fact that you naturally want to arm your combat-built Rangers with something more reliable. It is still a good gun, especially with range and reload AP cost upgrades, but its drawbacks, similar to the .45 Peace Keeper, are too much to overlook.

In the Director's Cut M1911 has been improved significantly. Dealing pretty much twice the original damage at the lowered AP cost, it is a fantastic gun for your pistol specialists, especially if they happen to have the Gunslinger perk line which allows to sneak in some free shots. It's still no G41 in terms of firepower, but at least it can be reliably used now.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It was the standard sidearm of the previous two world wars. The .45 slug, held in an 8-shot magazine, was first developed to stop Moro rebels in the Philippines. In its current role, it has no trouble slowing down desert raiders or the occasional mutant cactus. Many Desert Rangers find this a perfect weapon to take with them when they first head into the wastelands.[1]
