VP91Z 9mm pistol is one of the most popular sidearms in Wasteland.
Background[ | ]
A semi-automatic, civilian version of the Heckler & Koch Volkspostole 91,[1] the successor to the West German VP 70. Designed in 1991, its high capacity and good performance made it a staple sidearm of modern warfare. Although it's a West German design, enough units were imported into the United States to make it readily available. Desert Rangers in particular liked it enough to adopt it as a standard sidearm.

Behind the scenes[ | ]
- The pistol is based on the VP70 by Heckler & Koch. VP stands for Volkspistole, the 70 is the year of creation, and the Z suffix distinguishes it as a Civilian variant (zivilistish), which does not have a stock mount or the ability to fire in burst mode. Unfortunately, neither game shows the distinctive appearance of a VP pistol, instead using a knock-off Desert Eagle or a Beretta 92 in its stead.
- It appears to be one of many references to Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes, as the VP70Z and the M1911A1 .45 pistol are used together to illustrate the Combat section.
